10 New Year’s Eve Safety Tips

New Year’s Eve is a great evening to look back and celebrate all the success of 2021 and turn hopefully to 2022. First, however, we want to make sure everyone has a safe celebration. So we have the top ten safety tips for this magical night. We need our first responders, the police, and fire departments clear to handle serious events.  Thank you to our Texarkana Arkansas Fire and Police Departments for taking the time to help remind everyone how to celebrate New Year’s Eve safely.

  1. Don’t drive while under the influence. Instead, be responsible, have a designated driver, or use a car service like Uber.
  2. Don’t drive distracted.
  3. Verify if fireworks can be used where you live. Most cities don’t allow the use of fireworks within city limits.
  4. Be safe with fireworks; fireworks should only be used under the supervision of a responsible adult.
  5. All fireworks have the potential to be very dangerous; handle with care. Technically there are no “safe” fireworks. For example, sparklers may seem safe as they don’t explode, but they burn hot and cause serious harm.
  6. Do not shoot fireworks at each other, cars, or homes.
  7. Be ready to extinguish all fireworks with a pail of water and a water hose.
  8. If a firework does not “pop-off” or detonate, leave it to rest for a few minutes, carefully pick up the firework, and place it in a bucket of water.
  9. Please consider your neighbors they may be veterans, have children, and pets who these unpredictable loud blasts can cause unnecessary stress and anguish.
  10. Enjoy yourself, but be safe.
