Another Big Day For Shop With a Cop [Gallery]

Our KOOL and Pig Crews were happy, joyful, and put to good use this morning, as we assisted families and children with the Annual Shop With a Cop and Firefighter this morning, on the Texas-side of the city, at Target.

First, the parade of all of the police cruisers, fire trucks, EMS/ambulances was a huge thrill for the children and adults alike. Okay. That actually means me. I love a parade! Especially if Santa Claus and Mrs. Santa are involved. They were on-hand this morning, along with the Target Dog and the Chic-fil-A Cow.

Then, all of the LEO’s (Law Enforcement Officers) and helpers, such as our station folks, lined up over by the pharmacy. The children, parents/guardians, and family members lined up in the center aisle, armed with those red buggies. We met together, and the shopping was ON.

Officer G, Tony and I worked with a family of three. The young man was 9–10. The girls were kindergarten and first-grade aged kids. Off we went, to the toy aisle. Now, I know that  LOL Hatchlings are still a big deal, but these little girls brought ‘big deal’ to a new level. Many LOL’s went into the buggies, plus dolls, unicorns, even an R/C car. That part made me happy …girls like cars, too! Plus, they can share with their brother. Otherwise, we had baskets that were a sea of pure pinkness. Brother, being older,  chose a jacket, some clothes, and a game. His smile stretched from ear to ear.

Then we all made our way to the check-out lanes. Our shoppers were no better than any grown-ups I know, especially me, at Christmas…all three went a little over their limit. Thankfully, due to all of the Shop With a Cop activities and fundraisers that go on all year long, we were covered. No questions asked. We adults gave sighs of relief, because: who wants to tell these children, ‘No, you can’t have that, put it back”? They hear that every day they are in a store. I know that is true.

The mom told me that she would allow each child to have ONE thing today…everything else is to be wrapped and put under the tree for Christmas Day. I told her, “Good luck with that one!” Hey. If I were a kid who already knew what was there because I picked it out myself? I’d be unwrapping everything!

Next for me is the Ashdown Shop With a Cop. I am so grateful and thankful that Little River County Law Enforcement, Ashdown PD, LRC Sheriff’s Department, and the Police Auxiliary reach out to us each year, to promote and participate. So. Watch this space…you’ll see more about that SWAC.

Christmas, to me, is summed up in this sentence: Giving makes me happy.

God bless…and thank you for supporting Shop With a Cop.
