courtesy les leverett collectionsThe highly-anticipated series ‘Country Music’ from filmmaker Ken Burns begin this Sunday, September 15, on your local PBS station, 7pm Central.

According to pbs.org , we viewers may ‘explore the history of country music from its deep roots in ballads, hymns and blues, to its mainstream popularity.’ The program is 16 hours in length total, with over 80 interviews of country stars, plus some never-before-seen footage and photographs. This week begins with the ‘hillbilly music’ years in the 30’s….moving up through country music, until today’s New Country. As the PBS trailer states,’No one has told the story this way before.’

There’s even a companion CD, with all kinds of artists and songs, that compliment the series. Who knows? You might have an opportunity to win one of those with us here on the Pig.
