Boxing Day is the day after Christmas, December 26th, and it has absolutely nothing to do with your empty gift boxes or the sport of boxing. No one really knows for sure when the traditions started but it seems to have become the standard in 1871… here’s what we found.
Growing up it was a day to give to those who didn’t have as much as I did… we either helped in the community or donated unused toys.

Way back in the Victorian era in Britain, December 26th was the day the servants were allowed to go visit their families as the servants worked on December 25th assisting their employers’ Christmas Day celebrations were a success. Often the leftovers from the Christmas Day feasts were “boxed up” and given to the staff to take to their family.

Boxing Day is celebrated in Great Britain of course and former British Colonies to include Canada, New Zealand and Australian.
