2020 was an excellent year for the Miller County Courthouse; Miller County Judge Cathy Hardin Harrison shares some of the significant updates and improvements to this four-story Art Deco building which was designed by E. C. Seibert and constructed in 1939.

1- if you haven’t been to the courthouse in the last several months be sure to look out for construction. We are currently having HVAC installed in all of the courthouse, including the lobbies. Goodbye window units! We are upgrading all the lighting in all county offices. The MC jail and SO have already completed the upgrades and last month their electric bill alone was $2,800 less than prior months. All of the above upgrades are “budget neutral” the savings are guaranteed and is applied to the loan.

2- we are getting ready to start phase 2 of the roof. It is being paid for with $500,000. Grant we received last year.

3- we just received a $93,000 ARDot grant to replace all the perimeter sidewalks around the courthouse.

4- we have now completed all the paperwork (what a job 😨) and should now be receiving $1,403,000. that will go into the county general reserves from the CARES Act.

5- we received a Hazard Mitigation Grant that will raise the flooding area of MC 29, 3 ft.
We have been working hard this year! (The COVID hasn’t slowed us down.) These are just SOME of the things going on. More updates to come SOON! 😊

On a side note, the below photo is the thickness of just one side of a wall in the courthouse. The core drillers have said that because of the river rock in the concrete, that it is the hardest concrete he has ever drilled through. This courthouse isn’t going anywhere!! Have a great weekend!!😊
