The Pleasant Grove Independent School District says 5 staff members have tested positive for the Coronavirus, and others who have been exposed.

The details are in a letter to the student’s Parents and Guardians written by Superintendent Chad Pirtle and posted on the school district’s website.

Here is the letter which appears on the school website:

“Dear Parents and Guardians,
What a great week we have had in Hawk Nation! Our staff has been hard at work utilizing their
experiences, ingenuity, and excellence to prepare for the school year. Pleasant Grove ISD is ready for the 2020-2021 school year and we will welcome our students on Monday, August 10.

As we plan for returning to school at Pleasant Grove ISD, we recognize that this will be an unusual
school year. I assure you, we remain committed to supporting your student’s learning, as well as his or her safety.

I want to be transparent in sharing that we will have cases of COVID-19 throughout this school year on our campuses. Within our staff, we currently have five confirmed COVID-19 cases and nine individuals who are considered at a moderate to high risk of exposure. These individuals are all self-quarantined and will not return until they meet the return to school protocol.

It is also important that I communicate how we will continue to respond to these cases. This document outlines a summary of the procedures our campuses have in place to prevent or mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and to respond when a positive case is identified. A more detailed plan can be found on our district website www.pgisd.net.

Prevention

To prevent individuals with COVID-19 from entering our campuses, your student’s school will have the following COVID-19 symptom screening procedures in place:

• All staff will be required to self-screen daily.
• All visitors will be required to screen upon arrival.
• Parents are asked to keep their student home if COVID-19 symptoms are present or if the
student has been exposed. Please notify your campus of any COVID-19 symptoms, exposure, or
positive test results.

Mitigation
Our district will be taking the following steps across each of our campuses to mitigate the spread of
COVID-19.

• All adults in the building will wear face coverings over the mouth and nose.
• All students third grade through twelfth grade will be required to wear face coverings over the
mouth and nose, except when participating in activities that cannot be conducted with a face
covering on, such as eating, athletics, band or unless it is not developmentally appropriate for
the student to wear a face covering.
• PreK through second grade students are encouraged to wear face coverings while on campus
but not required.”
