The Pleasant Grove Hawks travel to Henderson to take on the Lions this Friday night.

The Lions will be the second straight Class 4A Division I team on the Hawks schedule. Pleasant Grove opened the season at home last Friday with a hard fought 22-16 victory over ranked Paris.

Hawks Head Coach Josh Gibson was pleased with the way his team finished the game, “Our kids played hard, stayed within our game plan, and didn’t panic. At the end, when we needed to make plays, defense made the two big stops and offense executed a 90 yard winning drive.”

Standouts on defense according to the coach were Landon Jackson and Nick Martin. Offensive standouts were Bruce Garrett and Ben Harmon.

The Hawks had only one major injury, but it was a key one, as Senior Jackson Cobb suffered went down with a leg injury. Gibson says, “We have several players that will fill that void on both sides of the ball.”

Just a personal note, I have known Jackson Cobb for a long time. He is a great young man. I hate to hear he was injured. I do know that he loves sports and has great determination and he will recover and come back from this, and I wish him the best. He is one of the Hawks leaders both on and off the field.

This week its another Division I opponent, as the Hawks travel to Henderson. Coach Gibson sums up the Lions, “Henderson is extremely athletic. They played up against 5A Whitehouse and completely shut them down and out with a 23-0 win. They are well coached.”

Coach Gibson knows the Hawks will have to be on their game to secure the “W” this week. “We will have to play a “clean”  game. We can’t give up the big plays against their offense. We also have to limit penalties and turnovers offensively. ”

Hawk Nation, which travels well, should show up in big numbers in Henderson.

GO HAWKS!!
