Pleasant Grove heads cross town to take on the Liberty-Eylau Leopards this Friday night.

Of course it’s a district game, but the in town rivalry makes for a very entertaining night of high school football.

Looking back at last week the Hawks were clicking on all cylinders on offense as they racked up 37 points in a 13 point victory over the Gilmer Buckeyes. Quarterback Ben Harmon had a big night both passing and running, combining for over 230 yards. Bruce Garrett, K.J. Hicks and Logan Johnson did the rest of the damage on the ground.

PG Head Coach Josh Gibson had this to say about the Hawks offensive effort, “We played a complete game offensively.  We protected the football, played physical and made some big plays in the passing game too.  A lot of players stepped up and produced. ”

Gibson is looking for the offensive line to continue to improve, “Overall we are looking for more consistency from our offensive line unit.  The three players that are playing really well right now are Connor Stanfill, Alex Murphy and Chris Druhan.”

The defense for the Hawks, bent at times, but never broke as they kept the explosive Gilmer offense from producing too many big plays.

Now it’s time for the short trip across town to take on the Liberty-Eylau Leopards. Even though L-E has been struggling, their schedule has been extremely tough and they are always up for this game. Gibson warns, ” LE is always athletic and dangerous.  Last year, they had a 1-6 record coming into our game and they had us down 21-0.  Both teams will always gear up for this game.  When you have the athletes they do, it makes them extremely dangerous.”

Hawks fans continue to support their program very enthusiastically, and this week will be no exception according to Coach Gibson who puts it this way. ” We have great community and fan support.  Its part of what makes PG so special.  We’ve sold out every game on the home side the last three years, and we’ve traveled very well too.  I expect a great environment at LE on Friday too.  It will be fun!”

For Liberty-Eylau’s part, Head Coach Klint King says, “We need to execute on both sides of the ball and make sure we are disciplined in the fundamentals.”

King is proud of his offensive line all though there are a lot of young guys up front. “We have some really good size and are learning on the fly right now. Experience is something you can’t teach, and those guys are getting a lot of good exposure and expeience against a lot of really good teams throughout our schedule this season.”

King is looking forward to all that will be going on Friday night. “It’s always fun to play in big games with a great atmosphere. We have to make sure we are focused on what is important and execute on the field.”

Tickets are being pre-sold for this game only. There will be no tickets sold at the gate the night of the game.

Check with the PG Central Office on ticket buying procedure for this game, as season ticket holders and parents of kids participating, along with PG staff will be given first shot at tickets first, before general public.
