The Hawks begin district play in football this Friday night in Pittsburgh.

The Pirates might not want to face these Hawks who are likely to be ready to rumble following their loss to Carthage last week in the “Battle of Goliaths.”

Looking back at that game first, it was an incredible night in “The Grove”. The crowd, the atmosphere, and the game itself were all unbelievable.

PG Head Coach Josh Gibson had this to say about the evening, “We are extremely blessed to have the support and experience that we had Friday night. A lot of people worked really hard to pull the event together. It was the biggest game in Hawk Stadium history, and we played a competitive game for 3.5 quarters and came up short.”

The Hawks did come out a little banged up injury wise, according to Gibson, “We lost a couple of players to injury and that impacted the end of the game. But, injuries are part of the game and we have some other kids that are ready to step up and make an impact.”

Now its on to what is called the second phase of the season. That is district play, the games that mean something as far a playoff seeding is concerned. Coach Gibson knows what this means, “This is an important game. District games dictate seeding for the playoffs. Our goal is to go back-to-back-to-back with district championships. Pittsburgh has great offensive/defensive schemes and are really well coached. They don’t have the big time talent that they had last year, but they still play hard on both sides of the ball.”

Well, as I mentioned earlier, I’m not sure I would want to be Pittsburgh. I feel like the Hawks may very well take their frustrations from the loss last week out on the Pirates.

Don’t be surprised if PG runs away with this one, particularly in the second half.

GO HAWKS!!
