Shifting Sands

“Like sands through the hourglass…so go the Days of Our Lives.”

Today, NBC announced that the entire cast of ‘Days’ have been fired…and the show has put on ‘indefinite hiatus’, at the end of this month.

Oddly, though, TVLine  announced on its site that NBC  hasn’t cancelled the soap outright.

Since the show shoots months in advance, there are enough episodes already completed to air through Summer 2020.

Meanwhile, does this mean that the venerable daytime show will be re-tooled and re-cast? Or is this a way to allow the show to end quietly next summer?

‘DOOL’ has been on the air since November 8, 1965. That’s 56 years of daytime episodic drama.

Now I know lots of folks who watch their ‘stories’ in the afternoon…or DVR them, and catch up over the weekend. However…there’s not that many ‘stories’ on daytime television anymore. Instead, it’s Dr. Phil, Ellen, Wendy, Dr. Oz and others on the schedule.

I ask you: do you want to keep your soap operas? Or are they an old relic, and need to go?

I’m curious to see what you think.
