Summer Safety Reminder From TAPD

Corporal Kelly Pilgreen, the Public Information Officer with Texarkana Arkansas Police Department, had excellent “summer safety” reminders to help us stay safe this summer.
1 Never EVER leave a child or a pet in the car. You never how long it will take to run the quick errand. The best thing is to have an adult supervising in the car or leave the pet at home and take the child with you.
2 Remember to “Share the Road” with motorcycles. Look twice and save a life.
3 Motorcycle riders ensure that vehicles around you know you are there.
4 Keep your speed within the limits so you can react to road conditions and avoid mishaps.
5 When driving through residential areas, be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out for children playing and their bikes.
6 Don’t drive distracted by your phone calls and texts.
7 School is about to start. Obey the posted speed limits, put your phone down, and stop for school buses as they carry very precious cargo.
8 Avoid severe injury or death by supervising children swimming.

We stopped in this morning and visited with our friends at The PIG 103.9, John Williams and Anna Pink.
Cpl. Kelly Pilgreen discussed a few things about summer safety.
In the next few months, we will be heading into the hottest part of the summer. We want to remind everyone NOT to leave their children or pets inside the vehicle unattended.
Watch out for our motorcycle riders. As the sign says, Share the Road. We also ask the motorcycle riders to make the traffic around you aware of your presence.
Our children are still out playing for their summer break, so be mindful of children riding bicycles. As we all know, children tend not to look out for us, so let’s lookout for them.
One final reminder, as the summer school break, comes to a close the next few weeks, and the big yellow buses will be back in action loading and unloading our precious cargo (children.) If you see a school bus stopped with all the flashing lights on and the STOP sign arm out, please stop and do not go around the bus. Watch out for the children and also our Crossing Guards.
We want to close out the summer with fun and safety and have a safe and exciting school year.
As we say at the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department, safety first, we are here if you need us, and be kind to one another. See ya soon!
