Support Your Local Businesses

Let’s remember our local business and shop local.  Every week since the COVID-19 pandemic crisis began we know many of our favorite local businesses are having to make really tough business decisions.

Give the Gift of Business: if you frequent a business, buy a gift card that covers your usual patronage. Then spread out using the gift card over time, when you continue to use that business. You can also give the gift card to family or a friend, for those who aren’t using that business yet.

Keep Your Subscription:  If you have a membership to a gym, exercise class, painting class, music lessons, dance academy, etc, keep it going. Many small businesses rely on that support to keep their doors open and literally save their business.

Buy Now, Pick Up Later:  If you planned on buying a manufactured product, like say, a guitar, a piece of clothing, give that business a call. Pay for it and have them set it aside for you to pick up later.

Ask How You Can Help:  If you know the owners or employees personally, drop them a line and ask how you can help. They may have ideas that are specific to their business.

As an aside, we asked you last week if you and your family are ordering from local restaurants during this time. The majority of you said YES. Some of us might have had trouble with the phone apps for ordering, or maybe your order wasn’t perfect. Just remember that not everything runs perfectly, and your patience is both necessary and appreciated.

And for goodness sake, TIP YOUR WAITSTAFF, whether you pick up curbside, or order for home delivery! Nothing has changed about tipping. Tips are how these employees survive, with or without the coronavirus crisis.

Back to the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, though.  They issue a weekly newsletter, which is informative and helpful, too. Ask to get on-board with them at front@mtpleasanttx.com or go to
