The Texas High Tigers may very well have a ferocious defense this year.

The Tigers are returning  7 starters on the defensive side of the football. Coach Gerry Stanford has 4 returning offensive starters from last year. All in all there is a good mix of players  on the roster with 25 seniors, 30 juniors and just 7 sophomores.

Tiger players to watch for on offensive include Junior QB Rian Cellers, Receiver Kobe Webster, Running Back Tracy Cooper, and offensive lineman Eric Poe.

Defensive players to be on the look out for include, Defensive End Jalen Green, Linebacker Clayton Smith, Defensive Back Lajaunte Wrightner, and Linebacker Jackson Halter.

The Tigers begin play Thursday August 29th in Waxahachie against Pflugerville Hendrickson. Coach Stanford had this to say about their opening opponent. “Highly ranked 6A team out of Austin, really solid defensive and offensive lines.”

We also asked Stanford about the district his Tigers are in this year. “A lot of depth top to bottom. One of the most talented districts in 5A.

Coach says the goals he wants his Tigers to achieve are as follows, “Play as a team, win district, win a playoff game.”

The Tigers are the second year into a newly formed district. Everyone is looking for big things out of them both this year and next.

Coach Stanford and his talented staff are there to make sure these Tigers proper and grow both on the field and in the classroom, and beyond.
