Even though the center of Tropical Storm Laura decided to go a little east of Texarkana its still causing some problems in the area with downed trees and power outages.

As of 3:00 pm Thursday afternoon SWEPCO reports over 1,500 customers without power in our area.

Here is the News Release from the Miller County Office of Emergency Management via their Facebook Page :

County and State road crews are out as well as all of our Volunteer Fire Fighters on the fallen trees. REA and SWEPCO have crews out working to restore the electricity. Over 700 residents in Miller County are out of power at this time. I have not received any damage reports yet. As the wind and rain continues, OEM asks everyone to remain off the roadways unless absolutely necessary, especially after dark. You can’t really tell what roads and streets are flooded or blocked by fallen trees until it’s too late.

More information from the Office of Miller County Judge Cathy Hardin Harrison:

Trees down on MC 261, MC 268, MC10@14 with power lines, and MC 19. US 160 with power lines, South Stateline with power lines and Phillips Lane. No power in parts of Doddridge, Fouke and Texarkana,Ar. and all of the City of Fouke. Roads are being removed from list when cleared.
As you know the storm has shifted more to the East of us, however we are now starting to get reports of downed trees and power lines. Please, be careful while out and about. Hopefully, this will be the worst that we receive. With the ground already saturated from previous rains downed trees and power lines are our primary concern.
More information from the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department:
UPDATE: Trees down at Jefferson and 18th Street. Please try to avoid this area at this time. 2pm
UPDATE: Reports of power outages on the south side of town. 1pm
Morning Texarkana, Arkansas! You have probably noticed the weather this morning and Laura’s path appears to be tracking a little eastward than predicted. However, we should see sustained winds of 30-35 mph with gust up to 50 mph later this afternoon and into the night around 10pm. Rain chances are a little lower, but rain was heavy in south Miller County a little while ago.
Our normal flooding areas like East Street viaduct and East Broad & 9th Street are safe at the moment. Our Miller County Emergency Management Team has done a phenomenal job of keeping us posted. In the events things get bad, Shelters have been assigned as needed. Our first responders are working hard to keep an eye on the weather so we can bring you the best updates.
Stay safe during this time.
