Its time for the Razorbacks to have homecoming 2019.

Arkansas High hosts Hot Springs Lakeside. The Razorbacks come into the game with a 3-1 season mark, and a 2-0 conference record. Lakeside is 3-2 on the year, and 1-1 in conference play.

I talked with Arkansas Head Coach Barry Norton about the thriller win on the road in Camden 27-26. “We are obviously proud to be 2-0 in conference play. The Camden game was the tale of two halves. We controlled the first half and led 20-6 st intermission. Camden did a great job in the second half of running the football and controlling the tempo. They took a 26-20 lead with just a little over 2 minutes left in the game.. Our kids did a good job in handling the situation. We knew we had 2 minutes and one time out. We hit a big play down the middle of the defense on third down and were able to get the score to win two plays later. Very good situational awareness by our players and coaches.

As we know defense wins games and championships and Coach Norton says while good, he wants a little more out of his group. “Defensively we have played good at times. We still need to play faster and more physical. Eliminating big plays is extremely important to have success in football and our defense has done a good job so far. We have created takeaways which has helped tremendously.”

Quarterback Braylon Bishop continues to grow and mature at that position and get more comfortable as does the team as a whole according to Norton. “I believe all of our players are getting more comfortable. Reps do that for players. The more reps you get the better we play. I think our kids are getting better each week.”

Hot Springs Lakeside will present some challenges for the Razorbacks, according to coach. “They are a very well coached, solid fundamentals team. They stress you with their offensive and defensive scheme and make you work hard to defend and move the ball. They will be very challenging for us.”

As for the keys to winning, Norton says, “Keys to winning are the same each week.  Play fundamental football. Block and tackle well, and protect the football. We always try to win the hidden yardage in the kicking game. We just want to play better from week to week. Homecoming should be fun.”

If you want to see an exciting, probably high scoring football game you should come on out to Razorback Stadium.

Besides it’s all the fun of Homecoming Week at Arkansas High.

Kickoff is 7:00. See you there.
