The Arkansas High Razorbacks host Maumelle in the 1st round of the Arkansas State Football Playoffs.
Razorback Head Football Coach Barry Norton, talks about the importance of playing at home. “Being able to play at home is a huge benefit. It obviously keeps us in familiar surrounding and routines. It will force the other team to travel and we should have a great crowd.”
The Razorbacks come in having scored almost 100 points in their last two conference games. Coach Norton likes what he sees out of his team heading into this week’s contest. “I think we are playing our best football now. Your goal is to continue to improve as the season progresses. We will need to be at our best starting Friday.”
The good news for the Hogs is they come into the playoffs fairly healthy and on a roll.
The Razorbacks have a tough opponent, however, in Maumelle. They are the #3 seed from the 5A Central Conference, while Arkansas High is the #2 seed from the 5A South Conference.
Coach Norton describes their opponent. “Maumelle is a really talented team. Their only losses came to two of the top teams in the state. They have a very talented offense with two really explosive receivers, good running backs and an accurate quarterback. We need to be efficient offensively and score when the opportunities are there. Defensively we need to eliminate the big plays.”
Norton says his team has never given up this year, although there have been some tough times. “This team has fought through some adversity, had some highs and lows and have kept playing all year. We are proud of this team and hope we can continue to extend this season.”
If Arkansas High is victorious they could actually play at home again next week. That would occur if the #4 seed from the 5A West, which is Morrilton, upsets Valley View. They are the #1 seed from the 5A East.
Stranger things have happened. Let’s get a big crowd out to Razorback Stadium this Friday night and cheer on the Razorbacks!!!!
