Beware the Ides of March

Beware the Ides of March. Remember that from high school when you were studying Shakespear? Well, the Ides of March are here. What the heck is it? Well, I did a little research on the infamous Google and found on History.com that The Ides of March aka March 15th goes back to the days of Rome 753 B.C.  They had a 10-month calendar March was the first month of the ancient Roman Calendar. And the full moon was called Ides and March 15th marked the first full moon of the year.

It was also when the Romans would have a New Year’s Festival. But, then many years later, Julius Ceasar changed the calendar.

He added 10 days to bring us to 365 days and made January 1st as the First Day of the New Year beginning in 45 B.C. and introduced the leap year every 4 years.

Shortly after Julius Ceasar was granted the title of Dictator for Life. The next year, on March 15th, Julius Ceasar was stabbed to death by a group of Roman senators. And that is why we now say “Beware the Ides of March”.
