Texas side police made quick work of arrested an alleged car thief.

Here is the Press Release from the Texarkana Texas Police Department:

A DoorDash driver left her car running and the doors unlocked at the north entrance of Christus St. Michael Hospital while she went inside to deliver food the other day. When she came back, she was surprised to find that her car was now gone. Luckily, there was surveillance video of the area that we were able to get a picture of the guy who took it.
A little while later, Officer Austin Butts saw Dustin Smith walking out on Cooper Lane and realized that he looked an awful lot like the guy in the video. He stopped to investigate and determined that it was him. Come to find out, he’d just dumped the car a few blocks away and thought he was home free until Officer Butts recognized him. Instead, Smith was arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and given a free ride down to the Bi-State Jail.
Good job, Austin!!!
On a side note… Remember that – more often than not – most vehicle thefts and burglaries are crimes of opportunity. Your best defense is to take away that opportunity by doing these three simple things: Always lock your door. Hide your stuff. Take your keys with you.
