Carseats protect very precious cargo.  Please come on out to a free Child Safety Seat “Check Up” tomorrow, Wednesday, August 24th, at the Texarkana Texas Police Department Training Annex Parking Lot, 1420 South Park Road, Texarkana, Texas from 4 pm to 5:45 pm. This quick stop will make sure all Child Safety Seats a safe and properly installed. Thank you to TxDot and #texarkanapolice for providing this important opportunity.

 Parents and caregivers can have their child safety seats checked to make sure they meet current safety standards, they are installed correctly and find out what type of safety seats are required for different ages and sizes of children.

On-site certified technicians will educate caregivers about proper car seat installation. No appointment is needed.  Replacement car seats will be provided to participants with substandard safety seats for qualifying Texas residents. Participants should be sure to bring proof of residency (such as a utility bill) and proof of government assistance (WIC or Medicare card). The child using the seat must be present and parents must know the weight and height of the child.

The event is being sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), Northeast Texas Traffic Safety Coalition, and the Texarkana Police Department.

Important questions to ask oneself are:

• • Does it move from side to side in your car?
  • Is the seat too large or too small for your child?
  • Do you know the history of the seat?
  • Is it expired?
  • Do you want to learn how to install it correctly?
  • When can the care seat be turned around from rear-facing to front-facing?

Fact: Studies show four out of every five car seats are installed incorrectly.
