The Pleasant Grove Hawks are about to begin what they call the third season at Hawk Stadium Friday night.

The Hawks lost only to powerhouse Carthage during the non-conference part of their schedule. They then soared through the district portion of the schedule unbeaten. Now comes the playoffs as PG tries to make it to the Class 4A Division II State Championship Game for the third consecutive year.

The Hawks won a coin flip so they begin at home against Nevada Community. Hawks Head Football Coach Josh Gibson says everyone is pumped to be playing at home. “We are extremely excited to be hosting the first ever PG home playoff game. We won the flip and have given out players and fans another great opportunity to see and play in a game at Hawk Stadium.”

Pleasant Grove comes in having a week off to prepare. Something Gibson says came at the right time. “The extra time off was a great recharge for out kids and coaches. We’ve come back fresh and we are focused and ready to go. Our workout on Monday was the best practice of the year. The kids are ready to GROW and play their best football.”

The rest also helped PG in the injury department according to coach. “We will be 100% healthy outside of the player that had to have surgery. This is the first time we will have everyone healthy since Week Five.”

The Hawks are hosting Nevada Community, which is a school just east of Dallas. We asked Coach Gibson to tell us what he knows about their football team. “They have a program that is experiencing growth with their new head coach. They have advanced to the playoffs the past two years and their kids and community are excited.”

We do want to extend our hearts and prayers out to the Nevada Community as they have experienced a terrible tragedy. That high school lost four students in a tragic accident last week. Gibson says, “Their village is hurting and obviously the staff and students are working through a difficult time together. We reached out to them last week. Our team is praying for them, and we are going to make them  feel special this Friday night. #commUNITY (for Community HS).
