Houston, we have a problem… at least that’s the line we quote, but the words actually spoken, initially by Jack Swigert, were “Okay, Houston, we’ve had a problem here.” After being prompted to repeat the transmission, Jim Lovell responded, “Uh, Houston, we’ve had a problem.”
Today marks the 50th anniversary of that fateful Apollo 13 space mission. When the astronauts onboard realized an oxygen tank had exploded, they used their lunar module as a lifeboat, circled the moon, and then returned to earth unharmed. It was the first in-flight failure of the U.S. space program, and EPIC example of teamwork at it’s finest!
