Join the Human Prayer Chain

Do you remember, back in 1986, when people lined up along Highway 67, and held hands for “Hands Across America”? This event was a way to focus on hunger and homelessness in the U.S. There was even a catchy pop song that played often, titled ‘Hands Across America’. Many of us were in that line locally. Maybe you were, too, somewhere else. Or you have heard your family talk about it.

So when Suki O’Neal of Friends for a Cause texted us about a new, smaller, yet similar event…we remembered.

Suki and the Friends for a Cause are holding a Human Prayer Chain, on Friday, June 19th. This will be held at the Retreat on Kenwood, at 9:30 AM. Suki says that she is looking for 290 persons to complete the chain around  the building. That’s right–two hundred and ninety volunteers to form a human prayer chain. (Suki did her math, obviously).  Then the prayer chain will pray over the Retreat’s residents, their families, their employees, along with offering prayers for our community, and the other assisted living facilities in town.

Suki has asked us here at AMI-Texarkana to help in recruiting 290 persons. Here’s what she has to say on the matter.

Goal: Create a chain of 250 people that encompasses our facility to pray over our residents, our residents’ families, our employees, other facilities within the community and for the community itself. Because this is about our community, we want all denominations and all walks of life to be a part of this project. I wanted to do something for our facility but in the process realized that maybe by us doing this, it could be a bigger inspiration to others in the community. My hope and prayer is that this act will inspire others to create positivity within their realm.
*We ask that all participants be at the facility by 9am to park and rally before the prayer chain. Local pastors will speak before we create the chain. The event should be over by 9:30’ish.
*Groups and/or individuals welcome! Please RSVP an estimated head count by Friday, June 15th if possible. Knowing who and how many to expect will help the flow as well as reach the 250 goal.
*Wear t-shirts with your church name on it. This isn’t about the who’s who but it is about who chose to be a part of this amazing event! There will be media present.
*Carpool or bus your group in if possible.
We plan to social distance with space in between us and ask that you bring a mask to wear. We are working on possibly providing masks so the earlier the RSVP and group count the easier it is for us to know if we can.

We are always up for a challenge…especially one as positive as this one.

Would YOU be one of our 290? We will stand with you, as well.

And, just remembering a Sunday when we held hands, that one time:

Oh. This one, too…the one that started it all:
