Just after midnight Saturday night, someone called 911 and said that, as they were driving down the street, they heard glass breaking and saw someone in dark clothes standing in front of Master Donuts on New Boston Road.
When Officer Zack Gilley got there less than a minute later, he saw someone immediately take off running away from the store. He didn’t get far though because Officer Derrick Bowers arrived at just the right second to cut off him off as he ran across the parking lot behind the store. Officer Gilley then saw that one of the glass windows on the front of the building had been completely busted out and there was a second person inside the store who was busy loading up drinks from the refrigerator and putting them in bags – apparently still oblivious that his buddy had ran off and left him holding the bag both literally and figuratively.
The suspects turned out to be 12 year old and 15 year old boys, who were both arrested for Burglary and then taken to JDC. We also recovered a large amount of change from one of the boys’ pockets that we believe was taken from the cash register.
A big “THANK YOU” goes out to the person who called 911 when they saw and heard something that didn’t seem right. With their help, we were able to immediately make two arrests for this crime and return the stolen items to the rightful owner.
