More On The Advance Child Tax Credit

This year, many families will receive half of their Child Tax Credit in advance. The IRS will distribute the first half of monthly payments starting on July 15, 2021. You will claim the other half when you file your 2021 income tax return. Here is what to expect:

Eligibility Requirements for the Advance Payment
You have a qualifying child who does not turn 18 before January 1, 2022, and
Your primary home for more than half the year is in one of the 50 states or Washington D.C.
You could have also filed a 2019 or 2020 tax return and claimed the Child Tax Credit on the return or given the IRS your information for an Economic Impact Payment using the Non-filers tool.
Advance Child Tax Credits Amounts
Up to $3,600 for each eligible child under age 6.
Up to $3,000 for each eligible child, ages 6 to 17.
Note: The IRS will automatically enroll you for advance payments. You do not need to take more action to get advance payments. Learn more from IRS.gov.
