The Pleasant Grove Hawks will travel to Tyler this Friday evening as they try to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Before we look at that game, a review of last week shows the Hawks dominating Gladewater in every phase of the game in a 45-0 shutout. PG Head Coach Josh Gibson talks about his teams effort, “Our effort has been amazing. That is a strength of our football team right now. the players are playing extremely HARD and want to dominate. They put in the work and have a lot of BELIEF in their abilities.”

Gibson got some good news this week, after it was determined that lineman Jamie Lewis’s injury was not as severe as first feared. The coach has high praise for Lewis, “He’s a big part of our football team on both the offesnive and defensive line. He’s also a great leader.”

Gibson adds they have been playing 2 deep on offense and defense so the same kids who have been playing will play a little more during the games until Jamie returns to the field.

Now it’s on to Tyler Chapel Hill, who have been putting up a lot of points on the scoreboard. Gibson says, “They are really athletic. They like to throw the ball more than any team we’ve faced this year, which will challenge our defense in a different way. Our secondary is looking forward to the challenge. Defensively, they are fast and similar to Henderson. They play with skill kids on the defensive line as opposed to BIG guys.”

Coach Gibson always has a plan for the season and is always looking to improve overall. He says, “We are extremely pleased with where we are, but we are hungry to GROW and get better. We identified a lot of positives this past weekend with our staff and players. We came up with a two page typed list of our strengths and weaknesses. We celebrated the strengths and came up with a plan to attack the weaknesses. The kids are hungry and want to get better, so we are fired up about the potential growth of who we can be.”

That’s one of the many things that makes Josh Gibson and his team’s so successful. You see, while they are doing well so far this season, they are always self examining themselves and striving to become better. Striving for that perfection that all teams covet.

With Gibson at the helm you know that no one is going to out hustle or work harder than these Hawks, they are #1 for a reason!!!
