The Pleasant Grove Hawks are one step away from participating in the Texas State Football Championship for the third straight year.

Standing in the Hawks way is unbeaten Midland Greenwood. Before we look at the semi-final match up, lets look back at last weeks rout of Gilmer.

Pleasant Grove ran up 55 points to beat the Buckeyes for the second time this season and the fifth straight time overall.

Hawks Head Football Coach Josh Gibson had this to say about the huge victory. “Gilmer is one of the ELITE programs in the state of Texas. to beat them 5 times in a row is an awesome accomplishment for our program. Our guys played a GREAT game. They prepared extremely well and I think it showed on the field. We played really well in all phases of the game.”

One thing that is very impressive is the fact that the Hawks since the playoffs began have been finding a variety of ways to score, whether is be long runs, long drives, big pass plays, pick sixes, or scoop and scores. Gibson had this to say, “We are playing well in all three phases and that production is showing in a variety of ways.”

This week the Hawks tackle unbeaten Midland Greenwood, who have racked up big time points in all there wins this year. Gibson describes the Rangers. “Midland Greenwood is a really good football team. they are 14-0 and have been ranked in the top 4 of the state most of the year. They are disciplined and well coached. They like to run the football and hit you with the big play-action pass like we do. Defensively, they play hard and are sound.”

The State Semi-Final will be played in what has become essentially Pleasant Grove West. That is the Ford Center, known as “The Star” in Frisco. The Hawks have played a bunch at that facility over the past 3 years. “We love playing at The Star. We’ve had a lot of playoff success the last few years. This week is full of nasty weather and we won’t have to worry about that on Friday night.”

Kickoff is 6PM. Hawk Nation should be out in force again. It should be a great match up. The big question is, has Greenwood played anyone with the athleticism, and toughness of PG?

The answer to that question and the right to play at Jerry’s World for the State Championship next week will be answered.

The winner will play the victor of the Wimberley/Silsbee game.

The Hawks are still on that mission we talked about last week.

GO HAWKS!!!!
