The Pleasant Grove Hawks are looking to finish the regular season with a perfect record and another undisputed district championship.

The Hawks will try and accomplish that with a home victory over Spring Hill Friday night at home.

Before we talk about this game lets look back at what happened last week. The Hawks refused to the let the persistent rain or the Leopards slow their championship march.

PG rolled at L-E by a score of 45-6. Coach Josh Gibson was thrilled, “We had a really great game offensively and defensively. We held L-E to 62 yards on offense. That’s an incredible accomplishment for our defense. Our offense had over 570 yards, including over 430 yards rushing.”

Bruce Garrett had his usual productive night at running back and has been getting some great help from Logan Johnson. Gibson adds, “Logan had a great game. We leaned on Logan a lot the second half and he had some big runs.”

Unfortunately the injury bug raised it’s ugly head again as offensive lineman Connor Stanfill went down according to Gibson. “Connor had a season ending injury. We hate it for him because he’s a great leader and anchor on the offensive line for us. He will be missed on the field a great deal, but he will still make an impact as a leader.”

As for the game against Spring Hill, Gibson is definitely not taking them for granted, saying, “Spring Hill is talented. They are ranked in the Top 10 statewide in two different polls. They have a great Quarterback, and some weapons at wide receiver. They beat Silsbee (a final four team from last year). Spring Hill will make the playoffs and has a great chance to win a few rounds.”

A victory over Spring Hill will give the Hawks yet another undisputed District championship. This is something that will make this group very special according to their coach. “This group goes down as the class with the most wins in Pleasant Grove history. I’m very proud and thankful for each one of our seniors. These guys have made as much of an impact off the field as they have on it, and that’s what I’m proud of the most.”

There is no doubt this core group of seniors is a very talented and special group of athletes and students. They were a big part of that 16-0 championship season, a big part of last year’s runner-up, and of course a major part of what lies ahead for the remainder of this season.

Ben Harmon and crew will certainly be missed when they walk off the field for the last time, but the end of the story is not written yet. We hope that book finishes with another state championship in Arlington come mid December.
