Vietnam War Veterans Day is celebrated today, March 29. On April 30, 1975, the last of the U.S. combat units withdrew from Vietnam, ending one of America’s longest conflicts in this country’s history. Of the 2,709,918 Americans who served in Vietnam, less than 650,000 are estimated to be alive today, with the youngest American Vietnam veteran age approximately 65 years old. That means the youngest would be born in 1957, and when the war ended in 1975, he would be 18 years old when he served. The majority of the veterans are in their 70s and 80s. They are our fathers and grandfathers. Approximately only 25% were drafted, the remaining service personnel volunteered, answering the call. The 2022 USA Vietnam War Commemoration is today at 6:00 pm, complete details click here.
