The Texarkana Texas Police Department recently posted information about a guy suspected of running around stealing television sets from hotel rooms. Then to make things worse, he tried to bribe officers to just let him go.

Media Release:

Over about a week, we got several calls about a guy who was stealing televisions out of hotel rooms. He would walk in a local hotel, find an empty room where the door had been left open, and simply walk out with the television. He’d almost gotten caught by employees of a couple of the hotels but always managed to get away before we could get there. However, James Robinson’s luck ran out the other day.

Officers Colton Johnson and Wade Johnson were just up the street when the call came in this time. When they saw his Volkswagon Jetta with Maryland license plates driving on St. Michael Drive, they stopped him and immediately saw two televisions in the back seat. Three more were found in the truck after they arrested him, but Robinson didn’t give up hope of getting out of all this. He offered each of the three officers who were there $300 to just let him go. Sorry, guy. That’s not going to fly with us. It did, however, get him additional charges for bribery.

Since his arrest, Texarkana Arkansas detectives ran a search warrant of his hotel room on that side of the stateline and found even more televisions believed to be stolen. Robinson’s arrest has apparently cleared cases in several other cities in northeast Texas where he is suspected of doing the same thing that he was here. In addition to Texarkana Arkansas, we have been contacted by New Boston, Titus County, Paris, and Tarrant County about charges that they now have against him. We suspect that there are likely going to be even more places that he’s hit around here.

Robinson, 25, of Forest Hill, Texas, is being held in the Bi-State Jail. He is charged with three counts of Burglary of a Building, two counts of Theft of Property, three counts of Bribery, No Drivers License – plus the holds that were placed on him by the other agencies. His total bond has been set at $141,266.
