TAPD To Host First Responders Course

The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department will be hosting their Annual First Responder Resilience Course on April 24-28, 2023.

Here is a Press Release from TAPD:
This course is open to all First Responders, Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS, Communications, and Corrections.
Law Enforcement is an inherently dangerous profession. The constant threat of on-the-job injury or death is ever present in the minds of most officers. Studies show that law enforcement has a higher risk of suicide, obesity, sleep disorders, cancer and other diseases and addiction than other professions.
Stress in the profession arises two areas:
1. Job Content – shift work, long hours, overtime, traumatic events, threats to physical and emotional health and the state of constant vigilance. Hypervigilance – state of increased alertness, extreme and constant alertness, that can interfere with interpersonal relationships, work life, and the ability to function.
2. Job Context – organizational stressors and the culture of the organization that produce stress.
In addition to the precarious nature of police work, many additional factors in recent years have contributed to the stress of officers.
Many respected agencies (IACP, NAMI, COPS) have published information on resilience building and studies have shown that resilience training – awareness of the coping skills, tools, and resources necessary to mitigate stress and adapt – are instrumental in maintaining psychological, physical, and spiritual wellness.
This Law Enforcement Resilience course was developed to provide both new and veteran officers with an overview of the knowledge, tools, and resources to prepare for, recover from, and adapt to the stress and adversity inherent in the law enforcement profession.
