Every year, August 21 is National Senior Citizens Day. On this great day, we honor senior citizens and raises awareness about the issues seniors face. You can celebrate this holiday by spending time with a senior you know, whether a loved one, a neighbor, or a new friend.
If you are lucky enough to live near your grandparents
Try to take time today or this weekend to visit with them if you are able. With COVID-19 a to of the nursing homes are not allowing visits. This year we are sure that a call would be just fine, maybe FaceTime? Try to learn something new about your grandparent, maybe ask for advice?
nursing home that has a pen-pal program
Looking online we found many Facebook groups that are coordinating pen-programs with nursing home residents. You will help someone who has been isolated during this pandemic and maybe develop a new friendship.
Volunteer
Consider volunteering at a local senior center or nursing home. These organizations are often in need of responsible volunteers, and you can build up some good karma in the meantime. This may not be an option with COVID-19.
Help our a neighbor
When you are going home today and over the weekend watch to see if your senior citizen neighbor could use some help. Maybe offer to help with the lawn, gardening, heck maybe even volunteer to go to Walmart for them.
