We Remember Bowie County Deputy Michael Page | #SayTheirNames

Everyday heroes patrol our communities maintaining law and order. Take a moment to pause and remember Deputy Michael Page who paid the ultimate price.

As we continue to commemorate National Police Week, we again pause to honor those law enforcement officers who have paid the ultimate price in the service to our community. This is the third installment in our series of posts to tell you the story of local heroes who made that sacrifice.

On the morning of Saturday, June 30, 2007, Bowie County Deputy Michael Page responded to a report of a car hitting a telephone pole on Daniel Chapel Road, north of New Boston. When he saw a man running into the nearby woods, he pursued him and a scuffle ensued in the woods. He was struck over the head and then shot in the shoulder with his own weapon. Paramedics and other officers located Deputy Page as he walked himself out of the woods. He was taken by ambulance to St. Michael Hospital where he died.

A search team using bloodhounds found the body of the 36 year old suspect from DeKalb in a wooded area near the crash scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Deputy Page served with the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office for three years and had previously served with the Texarkana Police Department for five years. He was survived by his wife, three young children, his parents, and three sisters.
Deputy Page, thank you for your service.
