Just announced, the Coronavirus that has its origins in Mainland China, now has an official name. The scientific name is COVID-19.

Now, doesn’t that sound rather sci-fi? Almost like ‘soylent green’.

The World Health Organization says that it chose this name ‘carefully’ so that there wouldn’t be a ‘stigma’ of having a name that was associated with a particular country or region, animals, or people.

So, why COVID-19? This name is pretty simple, really. It stands for the coronavirus that was discovered in 2019.

Makes sense. And it’s easy to pronounce, too.  To stay up-to-date with complete details about this health concern click here.

COVID-19 has now made ill over 42, 000 people, Over 1,000 persons have died as a result of the virus. The COVID-19 virus is now considered by WHO as being more deadly than the SARS virus epidemic, in which SARS was reported in 26 countries and infected 8,000 people.

Let’s hope that we are not impacted by this virus.
