You Can Adopt a Teacher

Remember how we had the opportunity to Adopt a Senior, earlier this spring? The idea was to gift a 2020 graduate with some simple, wanted or needed items because 2020 had ruined prom, graduation, and all of the regular rites of passage that go with graduation. Now, we can assist the teachers, too. Here is the general idea behind the Adopt a Teacher program:

Together, our community can support, uplift and encourage the educators of Bowie and Miller counties face the challenges of the 2020-21 school year.

Teachers may nominate themselves, as we all know that they selflessly dig deep into their own pockets annually and provide learning materials for their students. This school year poses an exceptional challenge as they prepare for socially distant face-to-face learning materials for their students, remote instruction and likely a hybrid of the two formats.

Anyone may adopt a teacher to support this journey. We kindly request a two-person adopter limit per teacher, so we can spread the support across both counties.

Teachers: Identify your grade level/subject area, why you became an educator and anything that you would like to share about your teaching/style.

Forms will be available for you to complete and share with your adopters. It is the responsibility of teachers and their adopters to make socially safe drop off/deliveries.

You can ask to join this “private group of FB” to become a member of the Adopt a Teacher Facebook page.

Teachers, you may ask to join and post what classroom needs you would like to have. There’s a section for who has been adopted already, and who is still awaiting adoption.

This might be a fine way for you to help both the educators and their students, return to school, for the 2020-2021 year. It’s certainly a feel-good thing to do.
